Maybe the Premier League wasn’t the right place.

After joining Red Bull Salzburg (Austria) in 2015, Minamino had a modest career. In the 2019-20 season, he formed a good partnership with Elling Holland (Manchester City) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton), which attracted the attention of big clubs.

He then joined Liverpool in 2020 and was able to break into the Premier League. But the bar was high. He scored just 14 goals in 55 appearances for Liverpool. He couldn’t push aside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. In 2021, he had a brief loan spell at Southampton.
