Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (27) has a setback in preparation for the season.
Colorado coach Bud Black said in an interview with local media outlets such as ‘MLB.com’ on the 3rd (Korean time) that Rogers was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder.
Rogers suffered a shoulder injury two days ago while attempting to catch a ground ball with a diving catch during an exhibition game against the Texas Rangers.
According to Black, an MRI scan revealed “trauma to the capsule of the joint and surrounding tissue that keeps the shoulder intact and secure.”
There is a possibility of surgery, and if surgery is performed, it is feared that whether or not to participate in the 2023 season will become unclear.
Rogers, the third overall pick in the 2015 draft, debuted in the big leagues in 2019 with much anticipation.
Last season, he finally established himself as the team’s starting second baseman. In 137 games, he had a batting average of .266 with an on-base percentage of .325 and a slugging percentage of .408 with 13 homers and 63 RBIs and won the National League Gold Glove for second baseman. Many roles were expected for the 2023 season, but injuries hindered preparation for the season.
“We’ve talked a lot about where he is in the team and where he’s at in his career, so (this injury) feels more devastating for both him and the team,” Black said. I decided not to call him ‘young player’ anymore. He thought his time had come. He expressed his regret, saying, “I thought he was ready to have a good season, so this injury is more difficult.” 원벳원 토토
MLB.com mentioned Alan Trejo, Harold Castro, and Cole Tucker as candidates for second base. Ryan McMahon, who was a finalist for the third baseman Gold Glove, added that he has second base experience.
That’s not all of Colorado’s injury breakaway. Lefty bullpen Lucas Gilbreth is out for the entire 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery.
Gilbreath recorded 4.19 ERA with 2 wins, 12 holds, and 43 innings in 47 appearances last season. He suffered an elbow injury that ended his season prematurely and ended up requiring surgery.
