Cho Kyu-sung’s brilliance shone through once again.

Mittwillan drew 2-2 with Viborg in the eighth round of the 2023-24 Danish Superliga at Viborg Stadium in Viborg, Denmark, at 2 a.m. ET on Saturday. With the result, Mittwillan remains in sixth place in the league with three wins, two draws, and three losses (11 points).

Mitwylan started the season on a high note. In their league opener against Hvidore, Mittwylan recorded a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from “freshman” Jo Kyu-sung. Against Silkeborg, Cho continued his goal-scoring streak and Mittwilan continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory.

Unfortunately, the flow stopped in the third round. Although Cho Kyu-sung scored again, they were outnumbered by a player being sent off and conceded a whopping four goals. However, they rebounded in the fourth round with a 2-1 win despite being outnumbered.

After that, they went into a slump. They didn’t win three games in a row starting with Brønnby in Round 5. In Round 6, they faced their “rivals” Nordsjælland, but they played poorly and lost 0-3. A draw at AGF in Round 7 ended their losing streak, but they were in desperate need of three points to turn things around.

Mittwillan utilized a 4-2-3-1 formation. With Cho Kyu-sung up front, Simsir, Charles, and Brynhildsen formed the second line, with Römer and Gigovic in the middle. Paulinho, Juninho, Beck Sørensen, and Dahlsgaard formed the back four, with Rossl in goal.

Viborg countered with a 4-3-3 formation. Thomas, Junior, Said, Jacobs, Gröning, Vestergaard, Bundgaard, Zaletel, Anyembe, and Kuzmich filled out the starting lineup, with Pedersen pulling on the goalkeeping gloves.

Cho Kyu-sung started despite the physical demands of the A-Match, where he once again proved his worth. He teamed up with Son Heung-min to lead South Korea’s attack in Saudi Arabia and took advantage of an opponent’s mistake in the 32nd minute to open the scoring with a header that proved to be the game-winner. 굿모닝토토

He was hoping to carry over his national team form to the club, and as mentioned, he was on a good scoring pace at the start of the season. A three-match silence in the league interrupted the flow somewhat, but he picked up an assist in the last league game to build up his offensive points again.

The game was tightly contested. Neither team had much of a chance in the first half, and each team gradually picked up the pace and tried to exploit the other’s weaknesses.

The first half ended 0-0. The second half saw a goal storm. First up was Cho Kyu-sung. In the seventh minute of the second half, Paulinho sent in a cross from the left side of the box, and the onrushing Cho Kyu-sung headed it into the back of the net. His fourth goal in the league. His fifth if you include cup competitions.

The lead didn’t last long. In the 11th minute of the second half, substitute Serginho tied the game at 1-1 after breaking down the defense in the box. The score remained 1-1, and Mitwillan took the lead again. In the 31st minute of the second half, they capitalized on an opponent’s mistake and attacked, with Franculino calmly capitalizing on the opportunity to score their second goal. But the lead didn’t last long. In the 38th minute, Zaletel equalized with a header from inside the box. In the final minutes of regulation, Cho Kyu-sung could have found the back of the net to give his team the three points, but he was unable to capitalize on the opportunity and the game ended 2-2.
